On January 5, the first “iReader writing contest” concluded in Beijing, which lasted nearly a year from planning. There are over one million yuan set for awarding. In this session, two long-length works won the biggest prizes, which is 150,000 yuan prize for each respectively.
More than 20,000 people participated in this activity.
In order to encourage more literature lovers to create, a national writing context was launched by iReader Technology, Perfect World and Dragonflies FM(Qing Ting FM) in July 2016.
25700 writers provided 37000 contributions to this contest. Besides, votes from netizens amount to over 26 million and comments more than 580,000.
It is worthwhile to mention the close collabration between a number of outstanding literary societies from universities, which has formed a positive incentive atmosphere for authors. These clubs also contributed a lot to the smooth progress of this competition nationwide. Therefore, iReader gave awards to outstanding societies like Cai Wei literary society in Chengdu Normal College.
In addition to college clubs and independent authors, the contest also invited well-known teams to participate. And the team named “basaltic” (Xuan Wu Ji) won the best award for team participation. Their work distinguishes itself in terms of plot, characterization, or writing techniques out of excellent team collaboration.
Bring good IP to limelight
This competition has been fully prepared for distinctive works’ IP management and expansion since the very beginning. We can see it from the dual standard selection mechanism it applied, which took both public comments and professional reviews into account. As for who are the professionalists, except for specialist in this field, there are also professional editors from 22 publishing institutions. Therefore, the result will be more publicly recognized, and there could pop out more good works.
Good news were delivered while the competition was still ongoing just because this IP development concept. Two months after the contest started, the suspense work “Fish in the water singing” was discovered by Changsha Big Fish Culture, formally signed and ready to be published. At the same time, the film adaptation IP of “Sui Sui Zhi”(Zhu Yu Xu Yao’s new work) was personally purchased by Zhang Bo, director of Xin Rui.
In this award ceremony, the work “Chuan Ji Zhi Tie Se Cang Qiong” won the best multiform award, which is a award set considering films, games and text all into one. And the best long-length work winner, “Chen Feng Zhi”, has already been brought by Da Da Ying Ye in advance. Da Da Ying Ye plan to make a film out of it with the help of iReader(Zhang Yue). “Chen Feng Zhi” is a Kungfu novel written by a young writer Jia Li. This novel has combined the spirits of traditional and new swordsmen, and we can read between the lines that it emotionally appeals to the return of the traditional martial arts.
As a matter of fact, full attention was given to writers and their works as they all value much the development of IP. The judge of the competition Tang Xintian revealled that many cyberspace writers write mainly in order to obtain more income before 2016, however, they grew more devotion to this writing cause in the year of 2016. Tang Xintian said: “ All the writers started to comtemplate on how far their works can go and how long they will be retained.
Organizers also organized a signing ceremony besides awarding, which provided a platform for authors, enterprises and IP derivatives to communicate, adding fuels to boost the growth of outstanding works. Xiao Duan, the writer of “Jian Ke”, signed a contract with iReader Technology, deepening their cooperation. At the same time, a tripartite contract was signed among iReader Technology, Perfect World and Dragonflies FM(Qing Ting FM, indicating that they will work together to develop more high quality IP works.
According to the 38th “China Internet Development Statistics Report” released by the China Internet Network Information Center, the mobile phone web fiction readers increased rapidly to 281.18 million in June 2016, compared to 259.08 million in December 2015. As network literature and the IP development promoted by Upstream and downstream industry chain are maturing, this contest, “iReader writing contest”, undoubtedly brought an opportunity for writers and this industry. Web fictions will continue rapid growth in 2017 under this contest’s impact.
